The Revelation of Jesus Christ
|
The word "revelation" means something that was hidden is now visible or
clear. This book makes Jesus Christ in glory visible. The revelation was from
God who gave it to Jesus. Then Jesus gave it to an angel who gave it to John the Apostle. John
wrote the Revelation in about 94 to 96 A.D. At that time in history, the ruler
of Rome was Emperor Domitian. When he wrote the Revelation, John was an old man. He was the last of the 12 apostles who was still alive. John was visiting the churches in Asia Minor. That is in the area that is now called Turkey. Paul had also visited those churches about 30 years before. When Paul was there, the churches were healthy and active. When John visited though, they were having problems. The Romans did not like John visiting the 7 churches to encourage them. They were trying to stop the spread of Christianity. They arrested John and then sent him to exile on a small barren island named Patmos. While he was on Patmos, John saw visions in which Jesus told him about the future of the world. Overview of the parts of the Revelation I. John tells about how he saw the vision and how Jesus looked when He talked to him. II. Letters to the 7 churches III. Things that will happen in the future.

Marriage of the Lamb
I heard the voice of a big crowd. It was like
the sound of many waters and like the sound of thunder. The voice said,
"Alleluia, the Lord God reigns and is all-powerful. We should be happy and
give Him honor. It's time for the marriage of the Lamb. His wife got
herself ready. She will have a beautiful clean white linen dress. Fine
linen is a symbol of the righteous saints."
[6] And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as
the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying,
Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
[7] Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of
the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
[8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean
and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
The angel told me to write this: Blessed are
the people who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. The angel
said that this is what God said, and it is true.
[9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the
marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true
sayings of God.
I fell down to worship the angel. But he told me
not to do that. He said he is also a servant of God. He is like
everyone who tells about Jesus. I should worship God. The spirit of
prophecy tells the news about Jesus.
[10] And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me,
See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have
the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the
spirit of prophecy.
Jesus comes on a white horse.
I saw heaven open. Then, I saw a white horse.
The person sitting on the horse was called Faithful and True. He is fair
when He judges and makes war. His eyes were like flames of fire.
He had many crowns on his head. He had a name written on Him. No one else
knew the name but Him.
[11] And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon
him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and
make war.
[12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and
he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
He was wearing clothes that were dipped in blood.
His name is the Word of God.
[13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is
called The Word of God.
The armies in heaven followed Him. They were
wearing fine, clean, white linen.
[14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses,
clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
There was a sharp sword coming out of His mouth.
He will attack the nations with it. He will rule over them with an
iron rod. God's anger is like a winepress that squeezes grapes. The
Word of God will show God's anger as though He was walking on the winepress.
[15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite
the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the
winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
I saw that on His clothes and on His thigh,
there was a name written. The name said KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
[16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF
KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
I saw an angel standing in the sun. He yelled
loudly to the birds that fly in heaven. He yelled for them to come to the
feast of the great God. When they come to the feast, they can eat the flesh
of kings, captains, powerful men, horses, people who ride on the horses, and
free men and slaves, great and small.
[17] And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice,
saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather
yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
[18] That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the
flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them,
and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
I saw the beast and kings of the earth and their
armies. They were coming together to have a war against the Lord on the
horse and His army.
[19] And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies,
gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against
his army.
The beast was captured and thrown into a lake that
was burning with brimstone (very hot rocks). The false prophet was also captured and thrown
into the burning lake of fire. The false prophet had fooled people
with miracles. These people were the ones who had the mark of the beast and
who worshipped the statue of the beast.
[20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought
miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark
of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive
into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
The Lord on the horse used a sword and killed the
kings and armies that were with the beast. The sword came out of His mouth.
All of the birds ate the flesh.
[21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the
horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled
with their flesh.
I saw thrones. There were people sitting on the
thrones. These were people who were judges. I also saw souls of the
people who got beheaded because they had witnessed for Jesus and God's word.
These were people who did not worship the beast or his statue or have the
mark of the beast on their foreheads or on their hands. They were alive and
ruled with Christ for 1,000 years.
[4] And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto
them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of
Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast,
neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in
their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
The other people who had already died did not
become alive again during this 1,000 year time period. This is the first
resurrection. The people who were alive in the first resurrection will
not die again. They will be God's priests and Christ's priests. They will
reign with him for a thousand years.
[5] But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were
finished. This is the first resurrection.
[6] Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such
the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of
Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Satan thrown into the lake of fire.
When a thousand years has passed, Satan will be loosed and let out of his
prison. He will go to the nations in the 4 corners of the earth, to
Gog and Magog. He will trick them. He will gather an army. His
army will have many people, as many as sand of the sea.
[7] And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of
his prison,
[8] And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters
of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number
of whom is as the sand of the sea.
Satan and his army traveled and circled around
Jerusalem. God sent down fire from heaven and burned them up.
[9] And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of
the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of
heaven, and devoured them.
Then Satan was thrown into the lake of fire and
brimstone. That is where the beast and the false prophet are. In the
lake of fire and brimstone, they will be tormented forever.
[10] And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented
day and night for ever and ever.
God opens the book of life.
I saw a great white throne. There was
someone sitting on the throne. The earth and heaven wanted to run away
from him. There was no place for them to run.
[11] And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
I saw the people who had died -- small people and powerful
people -- standing in front of God. Books were opened. Then the book of life was
opened. The people who had died were judged by the things written in
the books. They were judged for the things they did while they were living.
[12] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books
were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the
dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books,
according to their works.
The people who died in the sea were there, too.
Also, there were the people who had died and gone to hell. They were all
judged according to the things they had done while they were living.
[13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell
delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man
according to their works.
Death and hell were thrown into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
[14] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second
death.
The people whose names were not in the book of life
were thrown into the lake of fire.
[15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire.
The New Jerusalem by Gustave Doré From Creationism.org |
I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first
heaven and the first earth were gone. There was no more sea.
[1] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the
first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
I, John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem
coming down from God. It came down from heaven. It was beautiful like a
bride who is beautiful for her husband.
[2] And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
I heard a great voice from heaven. The voice told
me to look. He said God's tabernacle is with people now. God will live with
people. They will be His people. God will be with them, and He will be their
God.
[3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle
of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his
people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
God will wipe away all the tears from their eyes.
There will be no more death. There will be no more sadness or crying. There
will be no more pain. All of these things from the past are gone.
[4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no
more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more
pain: for the former things are passed away.
The one that sat on the throne told me to look. He
makes all things new. He told me to write because these words are true and
faithful.
[5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And
he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
He said to me, "It is done. I am Alpha and Omega,
the beginning and the end. I will freely give thirsty people water from the
fountain of the water of life. Everyone who overcomes will inherit all
things. I will be his God, and he will be my son. But other people
will go into the lake of fire. These people are people who are afraid and
don't believe, the hateful people, the murderers, the ones who are with
prostitutes, people who are sorcerers, people who worship idols, and liars.
The lake will burn with fire and brimstone. This is the second death.
[6] And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and
the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water
of life freely.
[7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and
he shall be my son.
[8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their
part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death.
One of the 7 angels came to me. This was
one of the 7 angels who had the 7 bowls of God's wrath. He told me to come
with him. He will show me the bride, the Lamb's wife.
[9] And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials
full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I
will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
With the Holy Spirit, he carried me up to a very
high mountain. He showed me the great and holy city of Jerusalem. It was
coming down out of heaven from God. It had the glory of God. It was
bright like precious stones. It was like a jasper stone, clear like crystal.
[10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and
shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from
God,
[11] Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most
precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
It had a very high wall with 12 gates. There
were 12 angels at the gates. The names of the 12 tribes of Israel were
written on the gates.
[12] And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates
twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve
tribes of the children of Israel:
There were 3 gates on the east, 3 gates on the
north, 3 gates on the south, and 3 gates on the west.
[13] On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three
gates; and on the west three gates.
The wall of the city had 12 foundations. The
foundations had the names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb.
[14] And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names
of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The angel that I was talking to had a golden reed.
He used the reed to measure the city and its gates and walls.
[15] And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and
the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
The city was square. It was the same distance in
length as it was in width. The angel measured the city with the reed.
It was 12,000 furlongs (1,500 miles) wide and long and tall.
[16] And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the
breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs.
The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
He measured the walls. They were 144 cubits (about
212 feet) as a man would measure.
[17] And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits,
according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
The wall was made of jasper. The city was pure
gold, like clear glass.
[18] And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure
gold, like unto clear glass.
The foundations of the wall were decorated with
many different kinds of jewels. The foundation and their jewels were:
First foundation | jasper
Second foundation | sapphire
Third foundation | chalcedony
Fourth foundation | emerald
Fifth foundation | sardonyx
Sixth foundation | sardius
Seventh foundation | chrysolite
Eighth foundation | beryl
Ninth foundation | topaz
Tenth foundation | chrysoprasus
Eleventh foundation | jacinth
Twelfth foundation | amethyst |
[19] And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all
manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second,
sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
[20] The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the
eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh,
a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
The 12 gates were pearls. Each gate was one
pearl. The streets of the city were pure gold, like clear glass.
[21] And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one
pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent
glass.
I did not see a temple in the city. God and Jesus
were the temple.
[22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are
the temple of it.
The city did not need the sun or the moon because
God's glory and Jesus' bright light made it bright.
[23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in
it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Nations that are saved will walk in the light of
the city. Kings of the earth will bring their glory and honor into it.
[24] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it:
and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
The gates will not be closed all day. There will be
no night there.
[25] And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be
no night there.
The nations will bring their glory and honor to
the city.
[26] And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's
book of life will enter. There will be no one who makes things dirty or does
bad things. There will be no one who lies.
[27] And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth,
neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are
written in the Lamb's book of life.
