St. John’s Catholic School for the Deaf
West Yorkshire, England UK

St. John’s is located in the northern part of England. It is a day school and boarding school for deaf students.

The students in this school are well-prepared to choose the work their adult lives. All pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 have a career lesson every week. The students in years 10 and 11 have a week of work experience. These experiences help to prepare the students to pick their future careers. Some students may choose to work when they finish school and others may choose to attend college.

The primary department uses a unique approach to reading and language development. It is called the "Maternal Reflective Method". The students write down their own conversations and learn to read from their stories. This method was developed by Father Van Uden. He was a teacher at the St. Michielsgestel School for the Deaf in the Netherlands.
