The
Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf operates
three schools on the island of Jamaica. They have
residential facilities that allow them to bring in
deaf students from rural areas. The Caribbean
Christian Centre for the Deaf teaches the gospel of
Jesus Christ. Through this ministry, they teach the
deaf a language, provide a basic education, train in
vocational areas, and encourage new leaders.Sometimes, people
come to CCCD from other areas of the world. They
come for short-term missions. They help do work at
the school. Some of the jobs they do are:
construction, repair, maintenance, ministry to the
deaf people in surrounding areas, assist with
vocational programs, and participate in outreach
events.
A group from CCCD
that uses sign language with music is called The
Hands in Praise Team. They travel and perform songs
to bring glory to God and tell their audiences about
CCCD and the work that is done there. The Hands in
Praise Team was organized in 1982. A typical
presentation includes signing to taped music,
sharing personal testimonies, and presenting short
dramas.
