iSLandDS is located at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK. The staff studies sign languages and deaf communities all over the world. This is a very unique organization and may be the only one like it in the entire world. Most of the staff and students at iSLandDS are deaf, and they come from different countries, such as Germany, India, Turkey, and Uganda.

Not only does iSLandDS study and teach about worldwide deaf communities, but they work to empower deaf people around the world. In many countries, especially developing countries, deaf people do not have rights equal to people who can hear. iSLandDS works to help deaf people in these underdeveloped countries. They teach them how to improve the quality of their lives.
