This
is an organization for deaf
people who have learned to be
magicians. They travel around
the world and perform their
magic tricks in shows.
The Society’s goal is to bring
all the young and adult deaf
magicians together. It doesn’t
matter if they are amateurs or
professionals. They meet
together in international
festivals for many valuable
purposes — camaraderie, exchange
of ideas, improvements in their
performance skills, solving
technical problems, and
participating in competitions.
At the festivals, they can
attend lectures about magic to
learn new tricks and improve
their skills.
There are at least 300 deaf
amateur and professional
magicians around the world. In
2012, the society’s
international festival will be
Helsinki, Finland. Finland was
the home of a famous deaf
magician. His name was Oskar
Wetsell. He lived from 1888 to
1922. Oskar was also a very good
athlete. He was a champion
swimmer who was in the Summer
Olympics in 1908 and 1912.
