The Senzor Foundation for the Needs of Deaf Children and Youth.

The aim of the Senzor Foundation is to offer financial, organizational, and informational support to the teaching, education, and social integration of deaf children and youth.

They are requesting a grant to help purchase clothing, shoes, basic provisions,  and hearing aids for deaf students in Satu-Mare and Oradea. They would also like to purchase other audiological equipment .

They write, "From our investigation in Satu-Mare and Oradea resulted that most parents are not able to offer  their deaf children  very basic clothes and shoes absolutely necessary to safely pass the autumn and winter season. Most children suffer  of  chronic lack of  vitamins. Their situation is even more difficult than that of hearing children living in similarly poor conditions, if we take into account the fact that they need to make more efforts and have to spend more hours studying in order to achieve the same results; therefore their need for basic food  which includes the necessary  calories and  vitamins is even greater.

"...so far we obtained the necessary clothes and shoes only for ten children. According to our data base  98 deaf children of 4-16 year old  are still particularly in need. Four  children live in the Orphanage of Satu-Mare (they are also in desperate need of hearing aids), three are studying in schools for hearing, 20 children are pupils of the Study-Group  for Deaf in Oradea and 71 are students of the School for Deaf  in Satu-Mare. Some deaf children can be found even among street children. In addition, we identified around 15 young deaf  who are not able to secure a working place and an  independent source of living."

They also write, "The situation of these educational establishments is particularly alarming.  For instance, in one school, eight new hearing aids were needed at the beginning of the educational year, but our foundation had funds only for three, so five children of the first grade had to start the year without any hearing aid.  The existing aids are mostly very old and technically outdated.  The situation of the audio-laboratory is similarly disquieting as it cannot function due to the lack of special equipment.  The available special illustrative material is also completely insufficient."
