MOSES, NOAH, AND SAMSON: BOBBLEHEADS??
by Stan Griffin

They’ve been around for years and years but have enjoyed a recent resurgence as promotional giveaways at pro sports contests. "Bobbleheads," sometimes called "Nodders," are small dolls (about 4 inches tall) put together so that only the head moves back and forth. When the figure is moved, it appears to be nodding.

Owners put them on desks, on bookshelves and even in automobiles on dashboards or seen perched looking out rear windows. They are rapidly becoming prized "collectibles."

Now a Texas cartoonist, believing that " ... Christians ... (are) the ones who should be happy ... (having fun)," is attempting to make "stars" of Bible figures. Don Foote is testing the market for "Bible Bobbleheads". So far, dolls have been available through the Internet only. He sees them as " ... perfect novelty items for a growing market ... Christian-themed books, music, toys, and films. " The Biblical stars on sale so far are Moses, Samson, and Noah. They’re priced at $14.99 each or all three for $39.99. He says, "As word gets out, sales are picking up."

Foote is concerned about the reaction of other Christians to his products. Will they look at the dolls as a "humorous tribute" or "just another sacrilege?" Does he seem as though he is using his faith to make money? Another potential headache is the manufacturer. He is importing the Bobbleheads from a factory in China, a country which continues to outlaw all religions.

Foote and his partners call their company "Isaac Brothers," the Hebrew word for "laughter." They say, "We ... know that God works in strange and mysterious ways, and if we can be one of those ... (ways), that would be great.
